The night shift at an automotive components plant stopped a line for ninety minutes because the capacity plan sat in a workbook the day-shift planner had open and locked. That incident, more than any efficiency argument, got the planning manager budget to fix the tooling.

Demand and stock figures flow in from the ERP through the connection patterns in our SAP work, planners across three plants edit their own sections concurrently, and shift handover notes attach to the plan itself rather than living in a parallel email thread. Published capacity views post to the shop-floor displays on a schedule, so the line never again depends on who has a file open. The plant measures the change simply: zero stoppages attributed to plan availability since rollout, across fourteen months.

ERP vendors ship Excel connectors for read-only reporting, and if consuming figures is the whole requirement, those tools plus Power BI are the economical answer. Custom work is justified when planning is collaborative and concurrent, when data must combine across ERP, MES, and quality systems, or when write-back to the ERP is on the table. If your plants disagree about which system holds the true stock figure, resolve that first; software built on a disputed number automates the dispute.
